Brewery says fly tipping meant facilities had to go
There are no recycling facilities left in Lonan following Heron & Brearley's demand that bring banks are removed from the Liverpool Arms car park 'immediately'.
The brewery asked the Department of Infrastructure on Tuesday (2 April) to take the containers off its land due to reported incidents of fly-tipping.
It comes ahead of an appeal on 30 April by H&B after planning permission to turn the Liverpool Arms from a pub to a residential property was rejected.
At a meeting of Garff Commissioners this week (3 April) members Nigel Dobson - who used to own the pub - and Andrew Moore said 'it's clear the brewery are spitting out the dummy here'.
The Board has called the loss of the bring banks 'extremely regrettable', but are working with the department to find an alternative site.
The facilities were well used according to the local authority, which had received no reports of fly tipping.
Those in Lonan parish will now have to take their recycling to sites in Laxey or Onchan.
The department says it often relies on land-owners to provide suitable sites for the bring banks, and if they no longer want them there, it's outside of government control.
