Email thread appears to show online messages between MNFU and DEFA
Shoprite was the subject of criticism on social media yesterday after accusations it mis-labelled Manx meat products.
Facebook page 'Manx Farming and Food Matters' posted an e-mail thread - appearing to share correspondence between the Manx National Farmers Union and the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.
It involves imported minced steak and gammon - sold under the Ballacushag Manx meat brand - and European Picanha rump steak, labelled as Manx premium beef.
There are claims 'human error' is responsible for the mistakes.
Comments on social media have added to the debate - with one poster saying it appears convenient to blame the staff for not changing labels.
Infrastructure Minister, and former DEFA Minister Phil Gawne added that it's concerning to see the Manx NFU falling out with its biggest retailer.
The department told Manx Radio it 'investigated' the matter after a formal complaint was filed.
