'Thick black mould' social media claims disputed by DESC
People who have concerns about how clean the National Sports Centre is are being urged to raise them directly.
The Department of Education, Sport and Culture says it takes cleanliness and the wellbeing of customers seriously.
It follows complaints, raised on social media, about the upkeep of the facilities at the Douglas venue.
These included claims about ‘thick black mould’ growing in the air conditioning fans and dirty changing rooms and pool areas.
The department has now clarified that a substance identified on the ceiling tiles in the Spa Suite is ‘black dust’ and not mould.
It says these tiles are scheduled for full replacement and the affected tiles, near ventilation grills, are being replaced as a priority.
In a statement to Manx Radio it adds: "The NSC has robust daily cleaning schedules in place, supported by contracted specialist cleaners, and regular maintenance programmes covering ventilation filters and drains.
"We would welcome the opportunity to speak directly with anyone who has raised concerns and encourage customers to use the feedback forms available."
