A callout to a carbon monoxide detector going off at a house in Laxey also led to the fire service discovering a fire at a property next door.
Responding to the call at about eight o' clock last night, crews carried out further investigation and found that the smoke detectors in an adjacent property were going off.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house and located found a fire in the utility room, caused by an electrical fault on a tumble.
The room was severely damaged by the blaze, while the rest of the house suffered smoke damage.
The fire service says carbon monoxide detectors are just as important as smoke detectors.
They should be fitted in any house which uses gas, oil, or has an open fire.
