First time ever a local authority presents petition on Tynwald Day
The Manx Government has failed to ensure free access to the beach in Port St Mary - that's the view of the village's local authority.
Yesterday (5 July) during the Tynwald ceremony, Alastair Hamilton and Alec Merchant from Port St Mary Commissioners presented a petition, the first time a local authority has ever used the ancient process.
The document questions a development which has blocked access to the beach, and says it's government responsibility to ensure rights of way are maintained.
The commissioners objected to a planning application for the building in 2009.
