Committal set for men accused of £750K fraud

Case will go to Court of General Gaol Delivery in January

Committal proceedings against two men accused of committing fraud in excess of £750,000 will take place next year.

Glen Cooper, of Helm Road in Lancashire, is facing 21 charges.

They include 16 of fraud by false representation, four of theft and one of forging a document with the intent to deceive.

The 52-year-old allegedly committed the offences between June 2017 and September 2019.

David Hewitt, of Clover Avenue in Peel, has been charged with eight offences.

They include three counts of theft and five of fraud by false representation.

The 50-year-old allegedly committed them between November 2018 and September 2019.

The men will be committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery on 26 January.

Mr Hewitt has been bailed until that date whilst Mr Cooper has been remanded at the Isle of Man Prison.

Update: At Douglas Courthouse on 10 November the prosecutor offered no evidence on the charges faced by Mr Hewitt and they were dismissed.

The allocated trial date – of 4 December – was vacated.

The court heard Mr Cooper will potentially be sentenced on 14 December.
