'Communication could have been better' says Manx Care after medical transfer patients spend night on airport floor

But health body says correct processes were followed

Manx Care says it is 'very sorry' to hear about the experience some patients had following the disruption to a recent transfer flight.

It was reported to Manx Radio that nine medical transfer patients spent the night on the floor at Liverpool John Lennon Airport after their flight was cancelled and they 'weren't told they had a hotel room'.

However, the health body says it appears that the correct processes were followed on the night. (25 June)

Manx Care says: 'Passengers were advised to book their own accommodation and submit expenses to Loganair for reimbursement, which is in line with standard procedures in such situations, and this is currently being followed for those passengers who booked accommodation and claimed the cost back.

'Patient Transfer’s 24-hour on-call emergency phone number was also available, and we received one call that evening where appropriate advice was given.

'However, Manx Care acknowledges that communications could have been better, and we have amended the travel warrant that is sent to patients prior to their travel to emphasise that they can call our out of hours service for help and advice if in difficulty due to travel disruption.'
