40-year-old's offending described as 'out of character'
A Douglas man who punched a pub-goer in the face has been ordered to pay him £500 in compensation.
Stephen Paul Cummane, of Harcroft Road, ended up in an altercation at Jaks Bar and Smokehouse on 6 February.
CCTV captured the 40-year-old assaulting the man at 12.30am – he caused lacerations to his lip and the side of his mouth; both required sutures.
During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse Cummane’s probation officer told the court the incident had been started by a disagreement between his friend and the complainant’s friend.
Describing the offence as ‘out of character’ she said he’d consumed more alcohol than normal on the night adding: “He deeply regrets what he’s done.”
Accepting his remorse was genuine High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered him to undertake 160 hours of community service, and pay prosecution costs of £50, telling him: “It was a single one-off incident.”
