One man's waste is another's treasure
Compost sales records have been smashed this year, at the Southern Recycling Centre.
Last year, sales struggled to break the 100 tonne mark. But in the first seven months of the current year, over 350 tonnes have been snapped up by the public, eager for the nutrient rich product.
It follows increased efforts to use compost in the landscaping industry, as well as in private properties.
Site bosses say they would much rather make use of 1,195 tonnes of garden waste they get each year than pay more than £80 per tonne for it to be incinerated.
