Salute to IOM sea bass protection efforts
Efforts to protect the Manx sea bass population have been recognised by UK marine conservationists.
Restrictions on fishing for the species introduced last year, were honoured in an award from the Bass Anglers Sportsfishing Society last week.
The rules mean only bass of a certain size can be caught and kept, and only by recreational anglers.
The Society's local representative Nigel Fairclough said commercial fishing and illegal netters posed the 'biggest threat' to the fish's numbers.
He went on to praise the Manx government for being 'proactive and at the forefront of fisheries' over recent years.
