Escalation in frequency and severity of incidents
The recent spate of vandalism in Douglas has been branded 'despicable' by Council Leader David Christian.
His comments come in the wake of a fire which was started deliberately in the public toilets on Loch promenade and damage to Shaw’s Brow car park.
He says there has been a noticeable escalation in the frequency and severity of such incidents in the town.
David Christian says such acts cost thousands of pounds to rectify, putting an unnecessary financial burden on ratepayers and forcing the council to redirect money budgeted for providing and improving its services.
He adds the council is working with the police.
They have evidence, including CCTV images, that shows those responsible are a small group of young people.
Mr Christian says the council will pursue costs from them or their parents to make it clear that it will not tolerate such behaviour.
