Devon Watson believes ensuring members don't have convictions would help protect vulnerable people
The leader of Douglas City Council believes local authority members should undergo criminal record checks before taking up their seats.
Devon Watson has been speaking to Manx Radio about the Local Government Amendment Bill.
If approved, the legislation would introduce tighter regulations around members interests and codes of conduct.
Councillor Watson says some areas of the bill could go further:

Consultation open on plans to formally recognise the heritage of Douglas Head
Police dealing with 'serious incident' in Ramsey
Drop-in session to support Isle of Man charities
Fundraiser to keep St John Ambulance emergency fleet on the road
