RPI rate could have meant bigger increase
Douglas Borough Council says cutting costs has offset the impact of inflation in next year's rate hike.
The authority yesterday set the charge at 408 pence in the pound for 2017 - a drop of 1.5% on last year.
Meanwhile, neighbouring Braddan Parish Commissioners announced a 2.44% drop in its rate, to just 200 pence.
Douglas Council leader David Christian says the current Retail Price Index (RPI) rate could have meant an even bigger increase.
But he maintains making savings around the capital has reduced the burden:
