Shop keepers in the newly-paved areas of Douglas town centre won't be allowed to use A-boards on pavements outside their premises when their current licences run out.
The stand-up boards have appeared outside many businesses in recent years - to advertise special offers and invite passers-by in.
But the council says the boards clutter-up the streets and make cleaning them more difficult.
The council voted this week not to grant any more licences for the boards in the conservation area.
Instead, shops owners can apply for permission to mount hanging boards above their shops.
