Pair allegedly stole bank card details for online shopping
A Douglas couple are alleged to have used stolen bank card details to fund an online shopping spree – only to be foiled by a lack of funds in the account.
Danielle Margaret Thompson and Rajul Alam of Mona Street appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.
Both face four joint charges of fraud.
27-year-old Mr Alam denies all four counts while 25 year old Miss Thompson entered no plea to them.
The court heard the bank card belonged to a member of staff at the Railway Hotel in Douglas and Miss Thomason had access to it when she worked there.
Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon said its owner had also given the details to Mr Alam when he ordered food from the Taste of Bengal, where he worked.
She said on 23 May, the card was used to buy more than £100 of makeup, Steam Packet tickets worth around £180 and Nintendo videogames worth almost £300.
However, the attempted purchases didn't clear because there wasn't enough money in the account.
Mrs Hughes granted both bail – they'll next appear in court for a pre-trial review on 10 September.
