Chair concerned about sensitive evidence being heard in public
It’s being reported that the chair of the UK Covid Inquiry has ruled that evidence relating to PPE Medpro will be heard in a private session next week.
The company is linked to Baroness Michelle Mone and her husband Doug Barrowman who own a property in St Marks.
It was awarded UK government contracts worth over £200 million after Baroness Mone recommended it during the pandemic.
The National Crime Agency began an investigation into the company in May 2021 concerning suspected criminal offences committed in the procurement of PPE.
Baroness Mone and Mr Barrowman have denied any wrongdoing.
The inquiry is due to begin on 3 March and last four weeks.
Chair Baroness Heather Hallet says she is imposing the restriction as she is satisfied there is a risk of prejudice to criminal proceedings if sensitive evidence is heard in public.
