New laws against moles
New regulations are being proposed to fine people who give 'tip offs' to those under investigation by the Island's Financial Intelligence Unit.
Disclosing certain information to any person who's the subject of an FIU request may prejudice the body's work and could now be an offence, punishable with a fine of up to £10,000.
The Home Affairs Minister Bill Malarkley will move that Tynwald approve the new regulations at the next sitting of Tynwald (20 Feb).
Under the proposed new rules, a suspected 'tipper' may be able to prove their innocence, if they can show they weren't aware the information was prejudicial.
