Company to continue surveying for fossil fuels until 2024
The chief minister says the 27 month extension to Crogga's licence to survey for gas and oil supplies will not stop government seeking a renewable energy base.
The company, which was initially granted its licence in 2018 and was given a further four month extension in December, announced a new agreement with the Department of Infrastructure yesterday.
Following the survey, Crogga also has the right to carry out 'exploratory drilling' for a further three years.
The move has been criticised by some who feel it's at odds with the government's climate change targets - MLC Rob Mercer described it as 'indefensible' and 'counter to science'.
