23-year-old fined £750
A Crosby man’s been fined after shouting homophobic abuse and throwing punches in a drunken and unprovoked attack.
Twenty-three-year-old Jason Craig Quayle of Rearyt-Ny-Chrink appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to using provoking behaviour.
Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon told the hearing Quayle had been out drinking in Peel on 4 June last year.
While he was waiting at a bus stop on Derby Road, he shouted a homophobic slur at two men.
The court heard that resulted in a row which saw Quayle throwing punches – after he was arrested Quayle told officers he couldn’t recall the incident.
He was fined £750 and ordered to pay £125 towards prosecution costs.
But after hearing Quayle had recently found work and owed hundreds of pounds in outstanding fines, he was ordered to pay £100 per week or face 50 days in prison if he misses payments.
