Congregation concerned over access
An Island preacher says road closures for Sunday's National Road Championships have saddled church-goers with a problem.
Peter Murcott says the cycling races around the TT course and a circuit at Abbeylands, will prevent many worshippers and ministers from reaching chapels and churches.
See the full list of closures here. The Women's race on Sunday begins at 9am, and the Men's at 1.45pm.
In a letter to Tynwald members, Mr Murcott challenged the Highways Act, which allows roads to close for cycling events at any time on a Sunday.
By contrast, during TT, motorised road racing can only take place on Sunday afternoons.
Organisers have since hit back at the preacher's claims.
Co-event Director Steve Shimmin says he's 'astounded' at the complaint, and that a full consultation took place with residents in February.
