Event begins with time trial on section of TT course
Cyclists from 14 different nations are expected to take part in one of the Island’s biggest sporting events of the year today (22 July).
Gran Fondo Isle of Man begins with an individual time trial on a section of the TT course.
Roads will close at 9.30am with the first rider due to start at 10am.
Competitors are being warned of the adverse weather conditions which include low visibility and south-westerly wind.
Poor weather means the prize presentations have been cancelled – riders who win jerseys, medals and prize money will be notified directly.
The Minisculo Fondo has also been cancelled with organisers saying it would not be enjoyable for younger participants as their safety ‘could be compromised’.
You can find more details about the road closures for the event HERE.
Tomorrow’s events are expected to run to schedule.
