Gena's Dance Academy current location in Peel due for demolition

An established dance studio is looking for planning permission to move its operations to an industrial estate in Douglas.

Gena's Dance Academy is currently based in Peel - but says in its application that the building is due to be demolished in August 2027 to make room for new housing.

It says the proposed location, in Hills Meadow, would be able to accommodate four dance studios, a staff room, toilets and two sets of changing rooms.

The application adds the academy sees more than 200 students during a week, and the proposed facility can have up to 80 people on site at any one time including students and staff.

It adds that the operating hours will remain 'substantially unchanged' following relocation - it operates on weekdays from 4pm to 8pm and Saturday has classes from 9am until 5pm.

The company says its opening times fall outside the peak hours within the industrial estate which it believes will help 'minimise conflict' and reduce pressure on parking.

Planning documents also show a number of other sites were considered, but these were unsuitable because of size, ceiling heights, parking and cost of adaptation amongst others.

The application is currently pending consideration and can be found here.
