DEFA testing them for avian flu
A number of dead seabirds have been found on beaches in the west and south of the Island prompting fears of a new outbreak of avian flu.
Several were reported on Port Erin beach near the Cosy Nook.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture’s animal health team has taken samples from them - the results of tests are expected to be known within a week.
No zones or restrictions have been put in place but anyone who keeps birds is asked to practice good biosecurity.
Officers are working to collect the birds that have been reported.
Anyone who finds five or more dead birds is asked to contact the department on 685844.
The risk to humans remains low but – speaking to Manx Radio during the previous outbreak – Chief Veterinary Officer Amy Beckett said people needed to be cautious:
