A large shoal of young herring has been driven out of the sea and onto the Island’s northern beaches.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says it appears the juvenile fish were herded onto land by feeding mackerel at the weekend.
The department has emphasized this is not a result of pollution.
Karen McHarg, DEFA’s Director of Fisheries, is reassuring the Manx public there is nothing to worry about.
Large numbers of dead fish have been reported on the Island’s beaches before, including in Peel a few years ago.
It’s a natural phenomenon, and Karen says there are no implications for other marine life or fishermen – and it is in fact a good sign of flourishing stocks of herring.
