Growing problem is going unchecked
The Island's benefit system doesn't have a formal process for identifying poverty, the Tynwald inquiry looking into the matter heard yesterday (6 Dec).
Directors Ross Stephens and Victoria McLaughlan says social security has never been asked to collect data on the Island's poorest, and admitted IT limitations in being able to gather it.
Amid talks of how best to measure the scale of poverty, a 'Household Depravation Survey' was suggested.
