
DEFA's call for local producers to compete with larger, off-Island ones is unrealistic, according to Ramsey Bakery Managing Director Jim Duncan.
The minister, Richard Ronan, made the call as his department's new strategy for the industry, 'Food Matters', was announced this week.
He says the Manx food and drink sector must compete with producers from elsewhere who benefit from economies of scale and can supply the likes of shops and restaurants at cheaper prices.
