Move follows growing calls for early identification of dyslexia and related conditions
The Department of Education, Sport and Culture has announced plans to pilot a new ‘literacy profiling’ programme.
At present, there is no formal screening for dyslexia on the Isle of Man - the government says this is due to the absence of a single, reliable test that can definitively identify specific learning difficulties.
Literacy profiling is an assessment approach that builds a detailed picture of a learner’s reading and writing abilities to help identify potential difficulties and inform tailored support.
Dr Jonny Fee, an educational psychologist at DESC, explained why there's no screening available currently:
