Garff Commissioners support campaign
Designs for a statue of women's activist Sophia Goulden have been tweaked as fundraising efforts continue.
Campaigners met with Garff Commissioners this week to outline what progress had been made on plans to erect a sculpture of the mother of suffragette icon Emmeline Pankhurst.
Goulden will now be portrayed brandishing a leaflet as opposed to a clenched fist, while a young Emmeline gazes upwards in a defiant pose.
Suffolk-based artist Sean Hedges-Quinn has been appoint to sculpt the effigy.
The Friends of Sophia Goulden say the next stage is ordering a 'maquette', a small scale model of the statue. It's hoped this can be used to boost fundraising efforts.
After meeting with the Garff Board, campaigners Lynn and Peter Owens spoke to Local Democracy Reporter Ewan Gawne.
