Designated space opens for those experiencing miscarriage or baby loss

Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit has welcomed its first visitors

TRIGGER WARNING: THIS STORY REFERS TO MISCARRIAGE AND BABY LOSS

A designated space for those experiencing complications in early pregnancy has officially opened at Noble's Hospital.

According to the NHS, 1 in 10 pregnancies will end in miscarriage in women under 30, which increases to 1 in 5 in women over the age of 35.

Until now, those who are experiencing pregnancy complications on the Island are often placed with other pregnant women while they wait for treatment.

However, the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit is now officially welcoming its first visitors.

It has a separate entrance and exit and also has a room that's been designed specifically for parents experiencing miscarriage and baby loss.

The Bluebell Suite's been designed by Vicky Christian, who herself has suffered multiple miscarriages and a complicated pregnancy.

It had been hoped the facility would be ready by January of this year, but it was delayed.

At the opening of the unit, Manx Care CEO Teresa Cope said: "It is lovely to see this come to fruition – this is the first step in a positive change for the Island.

"The Bluebell Suite was officially opened by Vicky, and the full unit will be available from Friday this week for those who require these specialised services.

I would also like to add my sincere thanks to the Friends of Noble’s for their support on this project, and their ongoing support for Noble’s Hospital and Manx Care."
