Health department hopes appeal will be conducted quickly
An appeal lodged against the Department of Health and Social Care's application to redevelop a respite facility has been labelled 'disappointing'.
Manx Mencap says there's a 'serious gap in provision' for adults with learning disabilities, and raises concerns an opportunity address the lack of long-term supported accommodation is being missed.
The charity believes the current Radcliffe Villas site will be demolished after the new building is complete, and wish to see the existing care facility repurposed instead.
The government department published a statement in response claiming the appeal "risks delaying the redevelopment of essential facilities to support the needs of vulnerable users."
It continues to say the current building "doesn't meet regulatory requirements nor the needs of service users, and the proposed development would see a modern facility better suited to those who use it."
The health department hopes the appeal will be conducted "expeditiously in the interests of people who will benefit from the proposed new development."
