BMA says the deal ends its dispute with Manx Care
Doctors on the Isle of Man have accepted a three-year pay deal following a last-minute offer.
The British Medical Association has confirmed 139 out of 144 doctors voted to accept the offer in a referendum that closed earlier today.
It means senior doctors and dentists employed by Manx Care will receive a six percent backdated increase for the 2025-26 financial year, with a 4.65 percent increase for the current period.
Resident doctors receive a 7.5 percent increase for 2025-26 and 6 percent for 2026-27.
For the 2027-28 financial year, both groups with receive a pay award 1.5 percent above CPI in September 2026.
Chair of the Isle of Man Medical Society Dr Prakash Thiagarajan said: "I'm pleased with we managed to win this improved pay offer for doctors on the Island without needing to strike. While it's disappointing that we had to escalate to the threat of action, I hope that this can put us back on the right path to ending the real-terms pay cuts that left colleagues questioning their careers on the Isle of Man."
The BMA's Deputy Chair of Council Dr Emma Runswick added: "This result is what happens when a trade union organises together, negotiates together and stands in solidarity together. Delivering care to our communities is what we want to do and that work shouldn't be undervalued or taken for granted by short-sighted financial decisions. Doctors on the Isle of Man should be incredibly produd of this pay offer. Well done to the negotiating team for bringing this dispute to an end."
The offer came in the closing days of a ballot for industrial action, which saw doctors vote in favour of strike action.
The BMA has confirmed that with its members having now accepted an offer, its dispute with Manx Care has ended.
Manx Care has been contacted for comment.
