Sewage leak highlights issue says MUA chair
Manx Utilities Authority Chairman Alf Cannan says raw sewage leaking into Peel bay highlights why the town should have its own treatment works.
Previous proposals for an open-plan works were withdrawn after strong local opposition, but means untreated effluent is still being pumped straight out to sea.
But it's now emerged the outfall pipe is leaking between the breakwater and the beach, and no divers are available to inspect the damage until at least next week.
With that in mind, Mr Cannan says it’s time to reassess whether Peel should have its own treatment works:
