Childminders mistakenly told to pay for commercial waste
Douglas City Council says a letter sent to registered childminders informing them that waste generated by their business was commercial and must be paid for separately, was the result of an 'administrative error'.
Shocked childminders took to social media yesterday (19 May) about the letter, which warned that waste generated from their properties could not be included in household waste collections and was not covered by domestic rates.

The statement from the Council says that due to an administrative error, it was issued in response to a general enquiry and was inadvertently sent to a number of registered childminders.
They have been contacted today to apologise for the mistake.
The Council says it remains committed to supporting residents and businesses with all aspects of waste management, including the collection and disposal of both domestic and commercial waste.
