Douglas Council members expenses total over £21k for meeting attendances

Mayor of Douglas claimed the most at nearly £3,500

Douglas councillors have collectively claimed £21,422.50 in meeting allowances over the last financial year.

The Mayor of Douglas Natalie Byron-Teare was paid £3,452.50 for 202 hours of work over 54 meetings - the most of any of the representatives.

Council Leader Claire Wells claimed £2,887.50 for 25 meetings which totalled 91 hours.

Elected representatives aren't paid a salary but are not obliged to claim expenses. 

Councillor John Skinner has been paid the third highest amount at £2,537.50 for attending 35 meetings and claiming 132 hours.

The expenses paid include claims for meetings attended by the board members in their capacity as councillors but have not been listed as an official meeting. 

Chair of the Housing Committee Devon Watson earned £2,100 for working 34 meetings and claimed 128 hours. 

Falk Horning, who chairs the Environmental Services Committee, went to 42 meetings and has been paid £1,850 for 142 hours.

Chair of the Regeneration and Community Committee Andrew Bentley claimed 107 hours for 31 meetings and was paid £1,387.50.
