Cllr Falk Horning he welcomes 'constructive dialogue' with property owners

Douglas Council says it is taking a 'proactive' stance on neglected and dilapidated properties across the capital.

The local authority confirmed 0.26 percent of houses are listed as being in 'disrepair' and an enforcement officer is working with owners to ensure they are 'safe and secure'.

It adds that there is also 'ongoing' enforcement work to keep buildings 'well-maintained' and to support the 'timely' repairs and clean-up of those on the list.

The council says it has 'no room' for complacency and welcomes 'constructive' dialogue with property owners wherever possible.

Chair of the Environmental Services Committee Falk Horning said: "We take the condition of properties seriously, not just for the safety of the public, but for the pride and character of our city.

"We always welcome constructive dialogue and aim to work with property owners wherever possible. However, when cooperation isn’t forthcoming, we will take further action where necessary.

"We all want to live in a Douglas that’s safe, well-kept and great to look at and that means looking out for our neighbourhoods, our homes and each other."
