Authority has increased emptying schedule of public litter bins

Douglas Council says it's unable to provide residents with an ad-hoc, or additional, bin collection service during TT.

The local authority adds that it monitors demands during major events but balances this with its responsibility to deliver a 'fair, safe and financially sustainable' service across the capital.

It acknowledges the TT period can place additional pressures on some households particularly those located along the course.

However the council says household refuse bins are provided for the disposal of domestic waste and it doesn't have capacity to accommodate waste arising from visitors.

In addition the local authority will not allow excess waste, like side bags, because these can be a health and safety risk to crews as well as the public.

The council says residents are expected to manage their waste within the capacity provided and alternative options are available including the use of civic amenity sites.

It also increases the emptying schedule of public litter bins during the fortnight.
