Thirty-two-year-old admits criminal damage and theft
A Douglas man’s admitted a rampage on a street in the centre of the capital which saw him kick the wing mirrors off five cars.
Thirty-two-year-old David William Atkinson of Church Road Marina appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to a total of five counts of criminal damage on 28 December.
Atkinson also pleaded guilty to stealing clothes worth £645 from a town centre shop and threatening to damage a police vehicle on the same date.
The court heard Atkinson went into Sports Direct on Strand Street on 28 December and put jackets and trousers in a bag before trying to get away without paying for them, only to hand over the stolen goods when challenged by security staff.
Later that day members of the public contacted police after spotting Atkinson kicking wing mirrors on cars parked along Finch Road, but when officers arrived he threatened to damage their vehicle too.
Defence advocate David Clegg asked for pre-sentencing reports to be prepared, and made no application for bail.
Magistrates remanded Atkinson in custody to appear again on 9 January.
