New 25-knot vessel expected to boost RNLI’s emergency response around Douglas and surrounding coastline
Douglas RNLI is inviting the public to welcome its new lifeboat, the RNLB Betty Huntbatch, at Douglas Inner Harbour at 2pm today. (9 August)
The Trent class vessel, capable of reaching 25 knots, is the fastest lifeboat ever stationed in Douglas and is expected to improve response times to emergencies along the local coastline.
The Betty Huntbatch has travelled from the RNLI College in Poole via Falmouth, Milford Haven, and Holyhead, with volunteer and RNLI staff crew testing the boat in varied conditions.
During the journey, the crew also assisted in a Coastguard incident in south Wales before handing over to another RNLI lifeboat.
Douglas RNLI is encouraging residents, visitors, and supporters to line the quayside to greet the new arrival.
