Fourteen-year-old can't be named for legal reasons
A teenager from Douglas breached lockdown rules just hours after appearing in court for the same offence, a court’s heard.
The 14-year-old, who can’t be named for legal reasons, appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse via a live video link.
He hasn’t yet entered pleas to charges of arson and breaching Covid-19 regulations under the Emergency Powers Act on 12 May.
Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing the boy, had appeared in court earlier that day after breaching lockdown regulations but later absconded from his care home.
The boy was spotted in Noble’s Park at around 3:30pm breaking social distancing rules with a group of teens – but was arrested after he and a friend set fire to a bin outside the Manor pub in Willaston at 6:30pm.
CCTV footage showed the boy ignoring social distancing rules with two friends before lighting the bin on fire and kicking it around.
The court heard the youngster is currently subject to a suspended custody sentence after convictions for supplying class A drugs, assaulting a police officer and criminal damage earlier this year.
Magistrates remanded him into secure accommodation – he’s next due to appear before a juvenile court on 10 May.
