Number of MHKs oppose new Bill
Details of the Education Bill have revealed a shortage of Manx legislative drafters in government.
Plans for drawing up the proposal, which pledges to modernise the Manx schooling system, began in 2017.
MHKs Daphne Caine and Julie Edge both opponents of the new Bill, sought the disclosure of the department's drafting process in Tynwald this week.
In his written response, Minister Graham Cregeen broke down who had been consulted and when, in the run up to putting the proposed legislation together.
However, Mr Cregeen explains there hadn't been the capacity in the Attourney General's Office to draft the bill.
Therefore, the department opted for an experienced British barrister by the name of Daniel Greenberg - a man with previous experience with domestic legislation here and in the UK.
To date, the Bill which is said to be 'one of the government's highest priorities', has cost the department close to £16,000.
