Follows death of 29-year-old Jordan Thomas in 2024
A Douglas man has been jailed for six years after causing the death of an Onchan resident by driving dangerously.
35-year-old Jackson Joseph Paul, of Palace Road, had denied the offence but was convicted after trial earlier this month.
Jordan Thomas, who was 29-years-old, suffered significant head injuries after falling from the bonnet of Paul’s BMW after he’d climbed onto it, on Harbour Road, on 25 February last year.
At Douglas Courthouse today (24 February) Deemster Graeme Cook told Paul the fact he’d driven forward, at speed, whilst Mr Thomas was still lying across his car was a ‘highly dangerous manoeuvre’.

Update:
In March 2025 Mr Paul was given permission to appeal his conviction and sentence.
In January 2026 Mr Paul’s conviction was quashed and a retrial was ordered.
A seven-day trial took place in September 2026.
On 10 September a jury recorded a unanimous not guilty verdict to the charge of causing death by dangerous driving and the proceedings against Mr Paul were formally discharged.
