Drone restrictions for TT and MGP

Operators could face up to £10,000 fine for ignoring regulations

Drone operators could face hefty fines if they operate their aircrafts near the TT course during road racing later this year.

Restrictions to flying around the course between 27 May and 9 June are being proposed, along with 18 August to 27 August for Manx Grand Prix.

During these periods, it will be illegal to operate an unmanned aircraft below 3000ft within the restricted area around the course.

The Civil Aviation Administration says this is to provide safe airspace for the possible evacuation of any sick of injured individuals, as well as preventing interference with the races.

There'll be an additional restriction around Douglas on 7 June while the Red Arrows perform.

Drones will not be permitted below 8000ft within six nautical miles of Douglas Bay to ensure safe airspace for the display.

Meanwhile, there are also proposed restrictions between 9am and 12pm on Tynwald Day below 2500ft within two nautical miles of St John's.

Those convicted of breaching the regulations face a fine of up to £10,000.
