Police motorcyclist smelt cannabis after travelling past 32-year-old
A Douglas man has been banned from the road for two years after being caught driving whilst under the influence of cannabis.
Travis George Stanley, of Woodlands View, was stopped in Foxdale on 13 July after a police motorcyclist smelt the drug after travelling past him in the opposite direction.
The 32-year-old was said to be nervous and his eyes were red and glazed; the officer could also smell an ‘overpowering’ smell of deodorant from within his Vauxhall Astra.
A drug wipe test was conducted and Stanley was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters.
Subsequent blood tests showed he was twice the legal limit; he later pleaded guilty to the offence.
During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse Stanley’s advocate said his client was ‘deeply remorseful’ adding: “It was a silly mistake that he deeply regrets.”
Magistrates fined Stanley £1,000, and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £125, telling him: “You’re putting other drivers, and pedestrians, potentially at risk.”
