24-year-old told officers he'd smoked 'half a joint'
A Douglas man who was eight times over the drug drive limit has been banned from the road for two years.
Kristopher Hamill, of Berry Woods Grove, was stopped by police in McDonalds’ car park on 19 July.
They’d noted the front light of his bike wasn’t illuminated and, when they spoke to him, smelt cannabis; the 24-year-old told officers he’d smoked ‘half a joint’ before riding.
A drug wipe test was conducted and Hamill was searched - 1.2 grams of cannabis with a street value of £24 was recovered.
At Douglas Courthouse he admitted drug driving and possessing the Class B substance – during sentencing Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told him: “This was a significantly high reading.”
She fined him £1,330 and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £125; Hamill will also have to pass an extended driving test.
