Passengers waiting on delayed flight

The runway at Isle of Man Airport has been closed due to a ‘failure of the runway lighting system’.

That’s what easyJet has told passengers due to travel on the 3.50pm flight to Liverpool.

EZY518 has been delayed to 6.30pm.

It’s now due to arrive in Liverpool at 7.03pm.

The airline has apologised for the delay saying: “Unfortunately, the runway at Isle of Man Airport has been closed due to a failure of the runway lighting system.

“We are working hard to minimise the delay and operate the flight as soon as it is safe to do so.

“We will continue to keep you updated on any further developments.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding.

“The disruption to your flight is outside of our control and is considered to be an extraordinary circumstance.”

Manx Radio understands passengers boarded the plane at about 5.30pm and are awaiting a further update.

Manx Radio has contacted the Isle of Man Airport for comment.

The flight is believed to be the last departing aircraft of the day - all other flights in and out of the airport this evening have been cancelled.

Update:

6.31pm: Manx Radio understands EZY518 has now been cancelled.

A NOTAM - Notice to Airmen - update confirms the runway is closed until 8.45pm due to an issue with the 'runway edge lights'.
