Crews give demonstration of putting out EV fire
Electric vehicle fires can be ‘particularly hazardous’ and take much longer to extinguish.
That’s from the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service which says temperatures can reach more than 1000 degrees Celsius.
Firefighters have to use a heavy-duty fire blanket to suppress the flames and thermal imaging equipment to monitor the blaze and detect when it’s safe to begin tackling.
Station Commander Brian Quirk told Manx Radio whilst electric vehicles are generally safe they do bring added challenges:
