Figures published following information request
The number of suicide verdicts recorded at Manx inquests in 2021 has halved compared to the previous 12 months.
Figures revealed in a Freedom of Information request submitted by Manx Radio show 11 registered deaths where it was deemed someone had taken their own life.
The Cabinet Office says the date deaths were registered – between 1 January and 31 December - may be different to when they actually occurred.
It adds that the time taken to bring a case to inquest can be ‘significant’ so the figure will include people who died before 2021 and will exclude some cases which haven’t yet made it to the court.
Twenty-two suicide verdicts were recorded at inquests in 2020.
