A Douglas North MHK says energy and food security are two factors that will fundamentally shape the Isle of Man's future.
John Wannenburgh brought proposals to Tynwald last week aimed at bolstering support for Manx farmers and food producers.
Some politicians described a government figure showing that only six percent of the food consumed on the Island is produced locally as 'shocking'.
Mr Wannenburgh says that should matter to everyone:
Government amended the motion which watered down some of the commitments, but Mr Wannenburgh says he'll "take it on the chin".
