Police say there's no indication of any wider risk to the public

Police say enquiries are ongoing following reports of a shotgun-like sound near Police Headquarters.

The Isle of Man Constabulary has confirmed a member of the public reported hearing the sound in the area behind the Emergency Services Joint Control Room last night.

Firearms officers responded, and for a short time the front counter at Police Headquarters was closed while enquiries to assess public safety were carried out.

A spokesperson for the Constabulary told Manx Radio: "We understand that reports of this nature can cause concern within the community. We would like to reassure the public that officers responded in accordance with established procedures and that public safety remains our priority. We are grateful to those who contacted police and would always encourage anyone with concerns to report them promptly."

Police say there's no indication of a wider risk to the public, but enquiries remain ongoing, and are urging anyone who was in the area and heard anything unusual to contact Police Headquarters on 631212.
