Facility will soon be available to hire for half-day sessions
An exciting new community project has been launched in the south of the Island.
The Erin Arts Centre's photography darkroom is now open to the public.
Having launched this past weekend, the facility will soon be available to hire for half-day sessions on specified days.
The team from the centre say creating the darkroom gave them the 'opportunity to lean into sustainable methods', as they've been able to 'source all the kit as donations or save it from dusty cupboards'.
In a post they said: "The starting point was the donation of a full pop-up darkroom kit from local photographer Adele, and we couldn’t have made it this far without the help of photographer and technician Sarah who tested and sourced all kinds of extras for us, including a second enlarger, and teacher and photographer Adrian who will be one of our available tutors.
"There’s potential for colour in future, but right now we’re set up to develop black and white prints (these can be printed from black & white or colour negatives)."
Later this month, a mainstay of the Island's artistic calendar returns to the EAC.
The venue's Creative Director Pip Rolfe told Howard Caine more:
